Building a sharing community

Welcome to TUMC, a Christian community in the Mennonite-Anabaptist “peace church” tradition. We aspire to be a family of faith  that welcomes people with diverse backgrounds and stories, worshipping together and supporting one another, while following Christ’s example in working for peace and justice in our urban context.

This Sunday

Hallelujah! Christ is risen!

The big feast day may be over, but we’ll continue celebrating Easter for the next few weeks, right until Pentecost! You’re always welcome to join us for worship at 11 a.m. Sundays, with Sunday School for kids and teens starting at 10 a.m. (Children’s choir meets in the sanctuary at 9:45 a.m.) Adults, join us at 10 a.m. for a cup of tea or coffee and conversation around interesting topics at the On the Way Cafe on the second floor.

TUMC is a friendly, intergenerational, multicultural community. We’re always glad to welcome newcomers. Whether you’re new to the city, visiting or simply curious, please feel free to check us out! For more information, check out the About Us tab.

VIdeo of the month

What happens when you learn the land your family has farmed for generations was originally stolen from the indigenous people? This beautiful short film reveals what happened in the Mennonite/Lutheran community of Laird, Saskatchewan. (TUMC has been working for some time on responding to the concerns raised by Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission.) Watch the teaser below; the full award-winning 32-minute film can be viewed HERE courtesy of Mennonite Central Committee.

Good Friday at TUMC

Our 11 a.m. intergenerational service, especially attuned to kids and teens, takes us all on a journey through Jerusalem and the tumultuous events of Jesus’s Last Supper, the betrayal and the Crucifixion, while inviting us to reflect on the ways we can connect with the Jesus’s suffering and God’s grace. Older teens and adults are especially invited to an evening service of solemn remembrance and Communion at 7 p.m.

Get away to Silver Lake!

Mark your calendar now for a big ol’ church-family weekend at Silver Lake Mennonite Camp on the beautiful Bruce Peninsula. TUMC’s annual all-church retreat happens June 9-11. This is a great, inexpensive getaway for singles, couples and families, and a super way to get to know other TUMCers, with activities for all ages, including canoeing on Silver Lake and swimming and paddling in the warm, sandy-bottomed pond, hiking, a wienie roast, evening campfire sing-along and more. Details TK!

On the Way Café: conversations on faith & life

Come at 10 a.m. and start your morning with a cup of coffee and perhaps something to nibble on as we gather in our new light-filled, kitchen-equipped second-floor meeting room to enjoy stimulating conversation every Sunday.
