Building a sharing community

Welcome to TUMC, a Christian community in the Mennonite-Anabaptist “peace church” tradition. We aspire to be a family of faith  that welcomes people with diverse backgrounds and stories, worshipping together and supporting one another, while following Christ’s example in working for peace and justice in our urban context.

This Sunday

Join us for worship this Sunday at 11 a.m. as we continue our series dubbed Credo: Faithful Moorings, a look at some of our most basic beliefs as Christians and how we might reinterpret them for the 21st century.  Christian Education for all ages starting at 10 a.m. (Kids’ choir meets in the sanctuary at 9:50 a.m.)  Adults, come at 10 a.m. too, and grab a cup of coffee at On the Way Cafe on the second floor. This week: Discussion continues on the subject of mental health and faith, with a look at bipolar disorder.

TUMC is a friendly, intergenerational, multicultural community. We’re always glad to welcome newcomers. Whether you’re new to the city, visiting or simply curious, please feel free to check us out! For more information, check out the About Us tab.

VIdeo of the month

What happens when you learn the land your family has farmed for generations was originally stolen from the indigenous people? This beautiful short film reveals what happened in the Mennonite/Lutheran community of Laird, Saskatchewan. (TUMC has been working for some time on responding to the concerns raised by Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission.) Watch the teaser below; the full award-winning 32-minute film can be viewed HERE courtesy of Mennonite Central Committee.

Deciding the big stuff

No pope. No president. No village chief. At TUMC, we make the big decisions, as much as possible, by consensus. All it takes to be part of that is to show up at the Annual General Meeting, when we approve a slate of folks to lead our board and ministries, set budget goals for the coming year and talk about important subjects. And have some fun slurping noodles at the themed Spaghetti Supper, an annual tradition put on by TUMC youth. Members and regular attenders (adherents) are welcome to come, learn, discuss, participate and put their thoughts into the mix. So add this to your calendar right now and plan to be part of the AGM on Saturday, Feb. 25, starting at 4 p.m.

Got questions? Join the Faith Exploration class

Thinking about becoming a member at TUMC through baptism, transfer from a sending congregation or upon confession of your faith? Wanting to ask questions of faith in a safe supportive context? Join the Faith Exploration class/discussion group Sunday mornings at 10 a.m., continuing for six weeks. The group meets in room 108 (Pastors’ Meeting Room on the main floor), led by Pastor Marilyn.

On the Way Café: conversations on faith & life

Come at 10 a.m. and start your morning with a cup of coffee and perhaps something to nibble on as we gather in our new light-filled, kitchen-equipped second-floor meeting room to enjoy stimulating conversation every Sunday, on various topics about faith and life. Adult Education was never so easy to enjoy. This week: continuing our series on faith and mental health.
