Building a sharing community

Sharing the light of Christ

Working for a just & peaceful world

Growing in faith

Nurturing kids & teens

Learning together from scripture

Welcome to TUMC, a Christian community in the Mennonite-Anabaptist “peace church” tradition. We aspire to be a family of faith  that welcomes people with diverse backgrounds and stories, worshipping together and supporting one another, while following Christ’s example in working for peace and justice in our urban context.

This Sunday

Join us for worship at  11 a.m. as we continue the season of Lent, a six week period before Good Friday during which Christians around the world are encouraged to refocus their attention on spiritual things. Sunday School for children and teens begins at 10 a.m. Adults are welcome to join practice for the Easter Choir in the sanctuary, or enjoy coffee and freewheeling conversation in the On the Way Cafe on the second floor.

TUMC is a friendly, intergenerational, multicultural community. We’re always glad to welcome newcomers. Whether you’re new to the city, visiting or simply curious, please feel free to check us out! For more information, check out the About Us tab.

VIdeo of the month

What happens when you learn the land your family has farmed for generations was originally stolen from the indigenous people? This beautiful short film reveals what happened in the Mennonite/Lutheran community of Laird, Saskatchewan. (TUMC has been working for some time on responding to the concerns raised by Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission.) Watch the teaser below; the full award-winning 32-minute film can be viewed HERE courtesy of Mennonite Central Committee.

Entering into Lent

Lent is a traditional time for reflection, prayer and perhaps divesting ourselves of some of the things that distract us from the spiritual path. Mennonites don’t necessarily “give up something for Lent,” but many of us do try to focus in a more directed way on the message of Jesus during this quiet, solemn time of the year. If you’d like some help to structure your reflections during this time, there are a couple of resources. First, a Lenten Guided Prayer Resource, available in a series of weekly PDFs under the TUMC Community tab. (You will need to log-in.) Also, for families, there’s a Lent at Home booklet. Check it out, on the lobby table.

Got questions? Join the Faith Exploration class

Thinking about becoming a member at TUMC through baptism, transfer from a sending congregation or upon confession of your faith? Wanting to ask questions of faith in a safe supportive context? Join the Faith Exploration class/discussion group Sunday mornings at 10 a.m., continuing for six weeks. The group meets in room 108 (Pastors’ Meeting Room on the main floor), led by Pastor Marilyn.

On the Way Café: conversations on faith & life

Come at 10 a.m. and start your morning with a cup of coffee and perhaps something to nibble on as we gather in our new light-filled, kitchen-equipped second-floor meeting room to enjoy stimulating conversation every Sunday, on various topics about faith and life. Adult Education was never so easy to enjoy. (On the Way Café is unprogrammed this week, but feel free to come for coffee and conversation!)
